How To  Teach Your Dog  Not to Jump Up

DON’T REWARD YOUR DOG’S JUMPING UP BEHAVIOUR

Turn your back and ignore your dog as they jump up. Stay silent and avoid eye contact. Be patient until all four paws are down. Turn around and praise your dog.

EVERYONE YOUR DOG MEETS CAN HELP THEM STOP JUMPING UP

Be consistent and make sure everyone who encounters with your dog follows the same guideline and ignores his jumping up. Your hard effort shouldn't go to waste! All family members and people your dog meets outside are included.

IF YOUR DOG IS FRUSTRATED, DIVERT THEIR ATTENTION

Change your strategy if your dog is agitated and keeps jumping up when ignored. Ignore the jumping up and ask for a positive behavior your dog knows, like a “sit”.

KEEP THEM ON A LEAD AND MAKE THEM WAIT TO GREET PEOPLE

At home, you can utilize a houseline like a park longline. Houselines are 2m lightweight leads. When guests arrive, keep your dog in another room or behind a baby gate.

Paws on the floor is best

Your dog must realize that jumping up is pointless. Keep all four paws on the floor to catch your attention. Praise your dog when that happens, especially when they're most inclined to jump up.

Do persist with your training

When you don't respond to a dog's behavior as expected, they'll try it harder. They will try to get your regular reaction.Don't worry—this is learning. It can be irritating, but keep training.
